Artistic Director - Elisabeth Dahl

I founded the company in 2012, merely as a framework for collaborating with the director Alfredo Michelsen in our shared interest in exploring the themes and depth of meaning found in Shakespeare’s many plays - in its original language.

Alfredo Michelsen had worked extensively as a dancer, actor and director, with career highlights including work with the Martha Graham Company, Steven Berkoff Theatre Company and a string of award winning one man shows, when he chose to become a teacher of the Alexander Technique. I was lucky to have him as teacher on the BA in Acting course at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts (2000-2003), and I continued taking regular lessons with him for many years upon graduating, using the Alexander Technique as a means for achieving the embodied voice and presence demanded by the work of a great playwright like Shakespeare, exploring many of his speeches on the way. I was very pleased to be able to bring him to Oslo for a full production of Macbeth in 2012.

Macbeth - the Making of a Murderer was very well received and a great learning process, and so I decided to continue exploring Shakespeare with the Norwegian Shakespeare Company as a platform. It has enabled me to work alongside some amazing directors and actors over the past ten years, in my continued research into the art of acting and

«…the purpose of playing, whose end, both at the first and now, was and is, to hold, as 'twere, the mirror up to nature; to show virtue her own feature, scorn her own image, and the very age and body of the time his form and pressure (Hamlet Act III, sc 2)».

Alongside my work with The Norwegian Shakespeare Company, various collaborations and working as a freelance actor and director, I teach voice, speech and Alexander Technique, both privately, giving workshops (including NORD, SKUDA, BAHR, KHIO) and as part-time staff on the BA in Acting course at Høyskolen Kristiania.
